The Commonwealth War Graves official website (external Link) states that there are six war graves in out churchyard for Harry Ashton; James Balfour; Harold Hough; Ernest Isherwood; Allan Lord and William Ryder. In fact there are seven.
Omitted from the War Graves Commission website is the grave of Donald Mather, who was killed in action in Belgium on November 1st 1917. Rev'd Simon Pritchard can be seen in the picture on the left laying a wreath on Donald's grave on November 11th 2015. We do this on every war grave in our graveyard each year. Some of our graves are in the distinctive white of graves that are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Two are featured below. All the fallen are remembered each year by the placing of a floral tribute on each grave by our Vicar. |
